theastrofiend Astrology: All About Moon in Cancer

The moon governs emotions and is at home (dignified) in Cancer. So this is very strong moon placement. Note: the moon is traditionally exalted (best) in Taurus Moon.

The Cancer moon native is intuitive and a bit psychic (as with the other water signs).  However Cancer moon natives are the most emotionally expressive out of the water moon signs.

Moon in Cancer natives are very family oriented and attached to their family, home and the past. Sentimental, nostalgic, with photographic memory, a moon in Cancer person definitely holds onto feelings and experiences that give them emotional comfort.

Cancer moon natives want to feel secure and comfortable, so they find ways to get that comfort. This includes attaching themselves into people and situations that give them comfort and emotional support.

The moon also represents emotional instincts, habits and coping mechanism. Negative Cancer moon emotional habits includes moodiness, emotional eating, hoarding, lashing out/snappiness, and emotional manipulation

The Emotional eating and hoarding provides the comfort that they  sometimes feel they need, stuffing their feelings and emotions down with food or materialism. Food can also be comforting for the moon in Cancer native especially if it's home-cooked or traditional food from their culture. The tastes and smells can transport them back to their childhood. That's good ole' nostalgia for you.

The lashing out/snappiness is due in part to the Cancer's ruling planet, The Moon.

To throw in some science about the Moon, to quote Texasgateway.org:
"The moon is also important to us because it creates tidesTides are daily movements of ocean water that change the level of the ocean's surface. Tides are causes by: the exertion of gravitational forces by the moon and sun."

The Moon on Earth is very tidal responding to the calls and wimps of the ocean. This relates to the nature of Cancer the crab, except the calls and wimps of the tides are in astrology are parallel to emotions. The Cancer moon native will forever be the crab attached to the ocean (aka early upbringing, past, home, and family/ancestral roots).

The lashing out/snappiness is also due to the fact that Cancer is a Cardinal sign. Cancer is a cardinal water sign and cardinal energy get things started. So with the tide of emotions associated with the luminary, The Moon and the Cardinal nature of Cancer means unpredictable emotions that can manifest itself in aggressive ways. Sidenote: The tv show Snapped (about pissed off woman who suddenly "snapped" and murdered their husbands is so Cancer.

The moon in Cancer person can also overcompensate and be overly protective (aka clinginess) when insecure and/or feel their emotional needs are not being met. A Cancer moon motivation is to feel at home with their emotions and to feel secure/connected in/with others' emotions. This is often seen through acts of clinginess and neediness. Remember that the Cancer's symbol is the crab. A crab has both a shell and claws/pincers.

So moon in Cancers when emotionally triggered or in deep pain they either choose to retreat inward (into their shells), lash out and/or grip tight and never let go (with their pincers).

Overall the positives and upsides with Cancer moon natives is that they are at their best when being nurturing, protective and caring, and emotional supportive attentive with their lovers, friends, and families. You can vent to them and be met with compassion and understanding.  More positive Cancer moon emotional habits includes emotional expressiveness, emotional protectiveness, giving emotional support and emotional empowerment.

Cancer moons are one of the few moon signs that genuinely want to listen and bathe in your emotions and emotional self expression. They look forward to it and encourages you to be your most emotionally free and expressive self. This means that people often times feel emotionally safe and secure with them (especially if the moon in Cancer is emotionally balanced, empowered and fed.).

Anyways I hope you enjoy my non-ratchet post!
