From June 22nd-July 22nd, the sun is in the astrological sign of Cancer. Cancer is the fourth sign of the zodiac and the first water sign among the three water signs (which are Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio). Cancer is ruled by the Moon. The Moon isn’t a planet (by science/scientist standards), but a satellite of Earth. This makes Cancer unlike most of the zodiac signs because it is technically not ruled by a planet. In astrology the moon is treated like/considered a planet (officially it is a luminary) and not only that but one of the most important planets in astrology with the other luminary being the Sun. 

Cancer is ruled by the moon and the moon represents emotions, our emotional natures, instincts and habits. Cancer is a water sign so it shares the characteristics with the other water signs, emotion/emotional, receptive/receptivity, and sensitive/sensitivity.  

Though Cancer has it's own unique characteristics. Cancers are nurturing, protective, and sentimental. Cancers can be moody, clingy, and too attached to the past. Cancer rules over the 4th House. The 4th House represents your childhood, family, childhood/current home, among many other things. This means that family and family history is very, VERY important to Cancer. 

The moon rules Cancer and the moon is feminine energy and represents the mother, so in turn Cancer fits the role of the Archetypal (or stereotypical) 1950s' mother. Cancers are devoted, loving, and very maternal. Though Cancer is a feminine sign, male Cancers can exhibit these qualities too. Of course this also means that male Cancers will also exhibit paternal energy.

Home and family is essential and important to Cancer.  Cancers strives to start, maintain, and protect a family. Cancer is very protective to those that they love and will do the most to help, protect and support their loved ones. This may include getting an extra job to support their family. Nursing and taking care of a sick or ill family member or friend. Preparing home-cooked meals and organizing annual family dinners that tastes of love and home. Cancer will do whatever is needed for their family. Note: this extends to friends and love ones too.

Being that Cancer is a family oriented sign, this sign is also very sentimental with a good memory too. Cancers tries to establish a sense of family and a home wherever they goes. Cancer do this by making traditional cultural or home-cooked food, scrap-­booking, carrying around trinkets that reminds them of home and their childhood and continuing/ starting traditions. 

Cancer’s phrase is, “I feel.” This phrase represents the purpose of the nature of Cancer. Cancers feels everything and are very intuitive and expressive with their feelings. Cancer often does things based off of their feelings and the feelings of others. This sign, though very protective also strives to be secure and protected, especially emotionally. Cancer want to know if they can be taken care of, which is justified because Cancer is a very giving and selfless sign. The downside to all of this is that sometimes they feel too much, act too brashly, and not think things through.

Cancer has butt-hurt, bitch baby and the emotionally manipulative gene that is attached with all water signs. However it's most prominent with Cancers because Cancer is the most emotionally expressive sign out of the other water signs. You will always know how a Cancer feels because they will always let you know (whether they mean to or not). Cancers being psychic and emotionally expressive makes them experts at emotional manipulation; which is something they may consciously or subconsciously do. Cancers feelings are both a strength and weakness depending on how they use it.

Another downside is if they don’t get their way and their wants & needs are not met, they can sink into themselves and become moody and withdrawn.  It's important to note that Cancer's animal is the crap. Craps have  shells and claws. Cancer's shells are meant to protect themselves. While Cancer's claws are not always meant to pinch but also can be used to attach itself to something. So when Cancers are being not moody/sulky they may do the opposite and attached itself onto others; hence the clinginess.

Cancer is also a cardinal water sign, so they are the Cardinal tribe's Water representative. Note: Cardinal signs are a group of signs that are naturally the leaders, self-starters, and go getters of the zodiac. The cardinal signs of the zodiac are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn.

Cancers have a natural talent to be businessman/salesperson, entrepreneurs and hustlers. Cancers like the rest of the Cardinal tribe get things started. A part of the Cancer's innate need to protect their family is to be financially secure. So their need to make money/start a business is oftentimes motivated by their need to be financially secure/protective for their family. So thread lightly.

As a Cardinal water sign, Cancers can also get the ball rolling emotionally in relationships. Cancers can be shy/reserved but naturally they wear their hearts on their sleeves. Cancers may try to find or downplay their emotionalism but it leaks out. Cancers are especially emotionally expressive with the people they love. Cancers however with that cardinal energy can lash about emotionally, verbally, and/or physically. 

Though just like a tide or a phase in the moon, Cancer's feelings/emotions are ever changing. What Cancers feel today is not a guarantee of what they will feel tomorrow. Cancer is always and internally motivated to get to your heart and soul. It’s for this reason that Cancer is very endearing and caring.
